This special project is an outgrowth of an initiative launched
at Pittsburgh's
La Roche College and in partnership with Renaissance City Winds
Orchestra.
Fifth through eighth grade students from urban and suburban parochial
schools are paired
and compose and perform in a final concert music that has elements
of jazz and the classics.
The outcome is not only an appreciation of the music and the young
musicians,
but also a greater respect for cultural diversity and other differences.
